Archimedia project for Knowle West Media Centre
Knowle West Media Centre works to involve young local people in media
activities as an opportunity to develop skills and confidence that can lead
to career paths. Archimedia is the project to redevelop the old William Budd
Health Centre into a state-of-the-art building for the work of the centre and
other media-related community organisations.
Young people from the community have been involved with staff from the
Centre throughout the project.
Funded by Bristol City Council, The EU Urban 2 and Objective 2programmes,
the South West RDA, Neighbourhood Renewal and Arts Council England the £3M project has a completion date at the end of 2007.
The building is designed to be as sustainable as is possible for this high-tech
use and to this end an important feature is the straw bale panel construction
of the external walls. This innovative technology provides a fabric that is both
super-insulated and from a sustainable source.
The role of Under the Sky has been to add the skills of an experienced client
to the dynamic idealism of Archimedia. At November 2007 the project is on
time and budget and the result will be a landmark in Knowle West. |
